Darren Lewis FRCS(Plast)

Darren Lewis is a fully accredited Plastic Surgeon with over a decade of experience as an NHS consultant plastic and burns surgeon. He is listed on the United Kingdom General Medical Council specialist register for plastic surgery and holds a full medical license.

In keeping with a tradition dating back hundreds of years, all surgeons in the United Kingdom and Ireland who are fellows of the Royal College of Surgeons are addressed as “Mr” rather than “Dr”.

Mr Lewis is widely experienced in all aspects of general plastic surgery procedures, especially in reconstructive surgery, burn care, general skin surgery including skin cancers, body contouring after massive weight loss, and breast surgery.

Mr Lewis graduated from the University of Nottingham in 1998 with Bachelors of Medical Science, Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degrees. He spend his “house officer” year in the East Midlands before beginning his surgical career in Stoke-on-Trent. After completing basic surgical training, he moved to Newcastle upon Tyne to complete his Higher Surgical Training residency in Plastic Surgery, obtaining the FRCS(Plast) fellowship qualification in plastic and reconstructive surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. During his time at Newcastle, Mr Lewis developed a sub-specialist interest in adult and paediatric Burn Care and began his research into ways of improving outcomes for burns victims. This culminated in a post-graduate fellowship at the prestigious Western Australia Burns Service under the mentorship of Professor Fiona Wood.

Mr Lewis was appointed as a substantive NHS Consultant Plastic Surgeon in 2009 at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust. He also holds an honorary consultant paediatric burns surgeon position at Birmingham Children’s Hospital, and an honorary consultant plastic surgeon position at New Cross Hospital, Wolverhampton, specialising in skin cancer. He is a member of the skin cancer multidisciplinary team (MDT) at New Cross Hospital.

His NHS practivce involves the management of adult and paediatric major burns as well as more generalised plastic surgery including complex wounds, scarring including keloid scarring, facial and soft tissue injuries and skin cancer. With private practice, Mr Lewis specialises in a range of plastic, reconstructive and cosmetic procedures and has admitting rights to a number of independent hospitals across the Midlands region including Nuffield Health Wolverhampton Hospital.
