Mastopexy is the medical name for a breast lift. In this procedure the surgeon raises and reshapes your breasts to give them a firmer, rounder look. The surgery also removes extra skin around your breast and reduces the size of your areola. Your surgeon will remove any excess skin and reshape breast tissue. They will also reposition your areola
A mastopexy is performed under general anaesthetic and usually takes about one and half hours.
There are three types of incisions used during this surgery
- Incision around the areola ( nipple )
- Incision around the areola and vertically down into the breast crease
- Incision around the areola, vertically down the breast crease and horizontally along the breast crease.
Individual clinical assessment will be undertaken at consultation and your options will be discussed with you.
Following your procedures dressings will be applied over the incisions. There maybe a small drainage tube placed temporarily in your breast to drain any fluid or blood following surgery. The drains will be removed prior to discharge from hospital. You will be asked to wear a support bra after surgery to support your breasts.
